At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, resided a boy named Shepherd. His being was mostly pure, and unsophisticated. His main role was mainly to tend to his herd of rams.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the wind through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his main co-dwellers. Day after day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. In one such instance out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plot.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills for rescue but found no beast.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a few more days. Yet, one day, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
